Description

Most people cringe when the two letters O and C are present, but I hope I didn't cause any. Even if I was first very motivated to draw this but then I was all like 'screw it' since this thing had been unfinished for like 3 weeks. So not as much effort was put into this as opposed to some of my other drawings, but hey. at least it's done. School, man. It really takes up way too much of my time.
Anyways, getting to the character. She's a side character in the book I'm writing, but I love her just as much as the others so I decided to draw her. I also like her concept, it is based off of the Korean hanbok as some of you may have noticed, but the colours. Oh, the colours. For whatever reason I found the really bright as I drew and so some of the blending may not be spot on. Sorry about that. Anyways, the reason for the bell is a reference to a Korean folktale about a girl named Princess Bari who receives a magical bell. Basically everything about this character's design is of a Korean influence because why not. I think it looks simple yet unique. Her hairstyle is so unique and looks like a fabrication of someone's wild imagination, but nope, it's a historical Korean hairstyle. Oh, and for her face I referenced a lady by the name of Irene of the band Red Velvet. I suppose you can't really see that now, though. I did a whole lot of research to make this look as it does. Usually when you think of fantasy you think of medieval Europe, but in my book I took reference from the wonderful cultures in our world because whitewashing is tired. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Alrighty, I suppose I owe whoever stumbles across this a bio, so here we go. I'll refrain from dumping in large portions of lore and potential spoilers into it.
Name: Hye-Jin (meaning 'bright' or 'intelligent') Lee
Age: It's really hard to pinpoint her age since she herself cannot remember it (amnesia, don't worry there's an explanation for it)
Race: Faerie (but is part of a sub-race that isn't featured as prominently as the Neamean Faeries which I'll most likely explain some time in the future))
Height: 5' 4''
Weight: 110 lbs
Hye-Jin probably could have led a relatively normal life, if her wants and emotions didn't get in the way. She was always different from the others of her species, but did not expect to feel so cast out and unwanted. The young girl found comfort with the Elves, who understood her struggle of being different. She eventually made a few Elvish friends, but it didn't cast away the looming shadow of persecution that hung over her head. But these feelings are gone, as are her other memories. A wish with both pros and cons was her bane, since she was blinded by the benefits. From this wish she gained immortality, which would make her live forever like her Elven counterparts, and she wished for greater power. But she also lost her sight and memories, and does not retain the ability of using magic unless entering her guardian form, in which she loses her free will and is driven by the spirit who tricked her. In this form most of her days are spent, mindless and unaware of her task (which is to guard the map that leads to this all-powerful demon. More explanation on that sometime later). Until one day, when Princess Marika (the main character of my book, will draw her later) and her companions free Hye-Jin from this state. She is ever grateful to them and join their fight against the growing evils.
(Addition notes)
When out of her guardian form (which is not the form illustrated), she uses a bow and arrow as a weapon. 'but she's blind!' I hear you say. This a thing I can vouch for, aiming is just one small component of archery and if you nail the form every time, I'm sure you can hit your target. My coach sometimes makes me shoot with my eyes closed (at a short range, mind you) to really focus on the form. Anyways, back to Hye-Jin. She can sometimes be seen as needy and weak to other people since she needs someone to lead her around everywhere. Even though it shouldn't be annoying to help a blind person, some people with little patience can't stand her. How does she fight? Well, someone usually needs to tell her where to aim, so it may be a little tedious at times for her when she's out on the battlefield. Overall, Hye-Jin's an extremely understanding person, almost to the point where even if someone tries to kill her, she'd probably forgive them. That means that she's easy to take advantage of, though. She's very respectful as well and often uses honorifics when addressing people. One of her main flaws is that she can be clueless from time to time, because, well, she's blind and if not told she won't know if you're standing next to her, for example. One last small detail, her bell is the source of her magical powers (which noted above) that she cannot control.

And that's a very brief description of a side character in my book! Imagine what the main character's bio looks like. Actually, it's not nearly as big as this since all through the novel you're mainly looking at things from their perspective and it's easy to learn what they're like. Anyways, that bio up there isn't edited so it may be a little janky. Other than that, enjoy these paragraphs that took me an hour to write...!
